Uber announced as of late last week, they would compensate drivers who miss work due to the coronavirus for up to 14 days. “We’ve already helped drivers in some affected areas, and we’re working to quickly implement this worldwide,” the company says. Lyft also announced it would provide financial assistance to drivers. However, neither company has detailed how much they’ll compensate people.

Here are some precautions to take if you are a Uber/Lyft Driver or Rider:

1. Try to avoid “Share” rides during this time. Singular rides can lower your risk of contracting a virus.

2. Make sure after every ride you disinfect your vehicle, and if you are a passenger, avoid touching internal parts of the vehicle. It’s important to wash your hands right after the trip. Most drivers will have hand sanitizer available provided by Uber in cities “with greater needs” Uber stated, as supplies permit.

3. If the urge to cough or sneeze arises, be more conscious to cover your mouth with your arm as opposed to your hands, to also lower risk of spreading germs on public surfaces such as an Uber/Lyft vehicle.

With these simple, yet effective small changes – you could do your part to prevent the spread of Coronavirus COID-19 in your local areas, and keep yourself as a rider or driver safe during these times.
